Heritage
Report
Research For this project.
The Fifth Grade Heritage Report will be composed of three elements: A
family tree, a first or third person narrative about special event, and
an interview with an older relative.
All written work should be generated by the student and proper references
should be made to where the information was acquired.
Directions:
Family Tree
- Research family members back two or three generations.
- Include first and Last Names, relationship, birthday and a picture
of each family member.
- Use Inspiration to build family tree using information and scanned
pictures.
- Print a copy to turn into teacher.
Interview
- Interview an older family member about cultural traditions and special
family celebrations. See this spot later for downloadable interview
template.
- Discuss also family origins in the Americas.
- Use research for narrative in the following section. Show teacher
your original manuscript.
First or Third Person Narrative
- Use Microsoft Word to compose a narrative story about a certain aspect
or event in their family's history.
- Scan pictures or copy from Internet to illustrate your story.
- The minimum length should be 500-700 words.
- Title page with name and pictures should be included.
- A bibliography is required citing sources of information and pictures.
Research Country of Origin.
- Use the Fifth Grade Research Arena or
books from a library to support your family heritage.
- Audio clips or video can also be included in an optional Powerpoint
presentation of the Heritage Project.
- A scrapbook of your heritage project may also be created.
- See your teacher for any additional support, criteria or materials.
